Eleanor JacksonEleanor J. Jackson,  On Friday February 22, 2008, a native of Columbus, passed away at Vista Care at Franciscan Woods Hospice Center in Columbus, GA.

Funeral services will be held 1:00PM Friday, February 29, 2008 at Riverview Baptist Church with the Pastor Rev. Larry Williams officiating.  Interment will follow at Main Post Cemetery, Ft. Benning, GA, Ft. Benning, GA according to People’s Funeral Service of Columbus, Inc. 1604 Talbotton Road, Columbus.  Visitation will be held from 2:00PM until 7:00PM Thursday at the funeral home.

Eleanor was born in Columbus, GA on January 14, 1933, to Nelson Sr. and Jessie Mae Jefferson.  She was married to the late Benjamin Beasley and later to the Sergeant First Class Harrison Jackson.

A longtime member of Riverview Baptist Church, Eleanor always supported her pastor and members in every way she possibly could.  She proudly served on both the Deaconess board and the Usher board for a number of years. She truly loved serving the church and her community.

Eleanor was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother.  She was affectionately known as “Nora” to all those who knew her well.  Eleanor possessed a calm, confident, unobtrusive faith in God, and firmly believed in the power of prayer.  Always loving, affectionate, warm and kind, she was always the first to open her doors to any family member in need.  Her family and friends are thankful that God blessed them with an angel and credit her with being the “wind beneath their wings.”

Eleanor’s passing is preceded by the death of her parents, her first husband Benjamin Beasley, her second husband Harrison Jackson, her siblings Elijah, Emma, John L. and Nelson Jr. and her longtime friend Louis King, Sr.,  and her grandson Christopher Elijah Jackson.

She is survived by her four children, Terry (Bobby Gates, Sr.), Tammy, Chris (Dr. Nicole Jackson), and Damon.  She is also survived by her siblings Alfred (Annie Pearl), Arnold (Sandra), Virginia (Ozell Edwards) and Brenda (Frank Bell, Sr.) and Sister In-law Claudette Jefferson of Columbus. Eleanor also leaves 10 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren to carry on her legacy, along with a host of nieces, nephews, and additional family members and friends.

    Chris and Family;
    Weeping may endure for a night but joy comes in the morning. To the Jackson Family I am sorry for your lost. We all now that God will not put any more on us than we can bare and Ms. Jackson she endured a lot. She is at peace and I know she would not want the tears but the joy in knowing those nights of pain and worrying they are all over nothing but Peace/Joy. That is what she would want for her family rejoice in her homecoming. My prayers are with you all in this time of sorrow.

    We call her Nora,we grew up in the same neighborhood together. Sorry to hear about Nora’s death. She is resting, and having no more pain. I knew her second husband, Harrison,which preceed her death. God Bless the family.
