Mr. Emmett Covington, Jr., 69 of 80 Wagon Wheel Drive, Ellerslie, passed Wednesday June 16, 2008, at Vista Care Center at Franciscan Woods, Columbus, GA.
Funeral services will be held 12:00 PM Friday, June 20, 2008 at Lewis Memorial Baptist Church with the pastor Rev. Benjamin F. McGruder, Jr. officiating.  Interment will follow at Ft. Mitchell National Cemetery, Ft. Mitchell, AL according to People’s Funeral Service of Columbus, Inc., 1604 Talbotton Road. Visitation will be Thursday from 1:00PM until 6:00PM and the family will receive friends from 5:00PM until 6:00PM at the funeral home.
Mr. Covington was born July 2, 1938 in Muscogee County, Georgia son of the late Emmett and Flora Scarbourgh Covington, Sr. He was a 1956 graduate of Wm H. Spencer High School, a United States Air Force Veteran and later retired from the New York Transit Authority as Deputy Superintendent. Emmett was a member of Carter Monumental CME Church and later moved his membership to Lewis Memorial Baptist Church.
He leaves to cherish his memories: a loving and devoted wife, Earnestine Covington, 4 children; Roderick Covington, Heather Covington both of Bronx, NY, Shanta Covington of Commack, NY and Kizzy (Timothy) Keith of Fayetteville, NC; a special aunt Mable Bailey of Durham, CT; a devoted uncle, Charlie P. Scarborough of Farrell, PA; a godson, Vincent Sampson; a host of grandchildren, brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
