Clarence L. “Bear” Evans
Mr. Clarence L. “Bear” Evans was born in Farmerville, Louisiana on April 1, 1952 to Elner Gean Evans. He graduated from Eastside High School in Farmerville, LA. Bear, as he was known by family and friends served 3 years in the United States Army in Germany and Ft. Benning. A native of Louisiana, Clarence was a long-time resident of Columbus, Georgia.
Bear was always there to lend a helping hand to anyone that needed it. He was always cheerful, funny and loved to have fun. Clarence’s main love was to drive and drove tractor trailers to church vans. Bear loved the Lord, reading his Bible, listening to Gospel music and sports. Clarence loved everyone but his heart was his daughter and grandchildren.
After a long, strong battle with illness, he entered eternal peace on August 20, 2008. He was preceded in death by his mother – Elner Gean Evans; grandmother – Ida Lee Jackson and sister – Ida Bell Dixon.
Clarence leaves to cherish his memories his daughter, Melissa Ford of Bossier City, LA; three grandchildren, Delanie, Riveca and Willie; a sister, Jessie M. Burch (Emmit) of Columbus, GA; two brothers, Walter E. Evans of Woodbridge, VA and Willie D. Evans (Linda) of Marion, LA; aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and a host of other relatives and friends. Bear adopted his friend Johnnie Banks as a brother.
Graveside services with military honors were held 2:00 PM, Monday, August 25, 2008 at Ft. Mitchell National Cemetery, Ft. Mitchell, Alabama, the Reverend Ann Jones, officiating.
