Carrie Lacey
Mrs. Carrie Chaney Lacey, 62 of 3861 Commander Drive, Columbus, passed Thursday, December 25, 2008 at Nurse Care of Buckhead in Atlanta.
Funeral services will be held 12 Noon Saturday, January 3, 2009 at Mt. Pilgrim Baptist Church 4400 Old Cusseta Road with the Pastor Rev. James C. Harris officiating. Interment will follow at Green Acres Cemetery according to People’s Funeral Service of Columbus, 1604 Talbotton Road. Visitation will be from 12 pm until 6 pm today Friday followed by a family hour from 6:00pm until 7 at the funeral home.
Mrs. Lacey was born November 10, 1946 in Leroy, Alabama daughter of the late Elliott and Arnetta Donaldson Chaney. She received her early education in the public schools in Leroy, AL graduating from Prestwick High School with honors. She attended Alabama State College and received a BS in Library Media. With her desire to do more, she entered Alabama A&M University and holds a Masters in Library Media. Mrs. Lacey began her career in 1968 as a Media Specialist-Librarian at Dixie Elementary, Russell County, AL. After retirement, she served as substitute Librarian in the Russell County School District for seven years. She was a faithful member of Mt. Pilgrim Baptist Church serving as a Sunday school teacher and working in the youth department.
Left to cherish her memory are her husband, Curtis E. Lacey, Sr.; 3 sons, Curtis E. Lacey, Jr., Keith Lamar(Charity) Lacey and Jarrat(Nicole) Lacey; 3 brothers, James(Willie)Chaney, Jackson, AL, Richmond(Clydine)Chaney, Millery, AL and Robert(Ron)Chaney, St Stephens, AL; 4 sisters, Margaret Gilmore, Thomasville, AL, Rebecca(Ed)Chaney, Leroy, AL, Bettye(Joseph)Chaney Poydras, Lawrenceville, GA, Rose Chaney, Anniston, AL and Gloria(Ron) Bissell, Castilian Springs, TN; thirty seven nieces and nephews, two uncles, four aunts, and a host of in laws and other loving relatives and dear friends.
