Mrs. Melzetta Gilliard Hinton, 85, of 821 Cedar Road, Chesapeake, Virginia, died Wednesday, June 17, 2009 at Autumn Care of Great Bridge. Funeral Services will be held at 12 Noon Saturday, June 27, 2009 at People’s Funeral Service Chapel 1604 Talbotton Road, Columbus with Rev. Benjamin Hinton officiating. Interment will follow in Green Acres Cemetery according to People’s Funeral Service of Columbus, Inc. Visitation will be Saturday from 11:00 am until the funeral hour.

Mrs. Hinton was born April 18, 1924 in Whitfield County, GA, the daughter of the late Marie and Mason Gilliard and widow of Lorenzo Hinton. She was a retired R.N. (registered nurse), having worked at Saint Francis Hospital for more than thirty years. She served faithfully in the Friendship Baptist Church of Hamilton, Georgia and the Holsey Chapel C.M.E. Church of Columbus, Georgia before moving to Chesapeake. Survivors include a son, Lorenzo Hinton of Chesapeake, VA (wife, Denise); a daughter, Brenda Hinton Blackmon of Tenafly, NJ; sisters-in-law, Clara Corrin of Redlands, CA (husband, Walter); Eloise Tidwell of Chicago, IL; brothers-in-law, Robert Lee Hinton, Sr., of Hamilton, GA (wife, Natha Pearl); Rev. Curtis Hinton of St. Louis, MO (wife, Shirley); four grandchildren, Kelly Kelly Ray (husband- Alfonso Ray) of Hackensack, NJ; Larissa and Elise Hinton of Chesapeake, VA and Adam Hinton of Newport News, VA; several neices, nephews other relatives and dear friends.
