Sarah ”Mama Sarah” Williams, 99, of 1512 27th Street, Columbus, died Sunday, July 5, 2009 at her residence. Funeral Services will be held at 11 AM Friday, July 10, 2009 in the chapel at People’s Funeral Service of Columbus, Inc. with the Rev. Valerie Thompson officiating. Interment will follow at Green Acres Cemetery according to People’s Funeral Service of Columbus, Inc. 1604 Talbotton Road. Visitation will be Thursday from 1:00PM until 7:00PM at the funeral home.

Mrs. Williams was born January 1, 1910 in Harris County, GA daughter of the late Effie and Mollie Barge Johnson. She was also predeceased by her husband Joseph Williams. Mama Sarah retired after many years of service with The New Yorker Hotel; she was a professional Seamstress and a member of Ward Chapel AME Church. She leaves to cherish her memories a son Frederick Williams; a daughter, Mary Lee Williams both of Columbus; a sister Walter Lee Hood; 5 grandchildren, Diana Benton, Thomas Jerome Patrick, Jacqueline Patrick all of Columbus, Geraldine Perry, Atlanta, GA and Cassandra Christie, New York, NY; 18 great grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins other relatives and dear friends.
