To: Shirley’s family,
I’m saddened to hear of Shirley’s passing. Through the years I’ve often thought about her and even when visiting Columbus whether my starting point was from an overseas location or a stateside one I couldn’t seem to find anyone that knew her whereabouts. Nevertheless, I first met met Shirley back in 1977 while in high school and visiting a friend of mine by the name of Anthony Cody. I was quickly struck by her humble attitude and ways. Shirley never seemed to complain about life regardless of the condition or situation she happen to find herself in or facing. Later in life I’d look back on this with real wonder. Anyway, over the years I’ve used her outlook to draw strength and push forward especially when things weren’t exactly great. I believe this helped make me a better person and I gladly give much of the credit to my friendship with Shirley. In closing, I’m glad I met her and I wish her family and friends comfort and God’s grace during this period.
