SSG(RET)Tommie Lee Mitchenor, Sr, 81, of 1126 Bel-Mar, Street, Columbus, GA, died Saturday January 30, 2010 in Columbus, GA. Funeral services will be held 1:00pm Saturday February 6, 2010 at The Infantry Center Chapel, Ft Benning, GA with Rev. Willie J. Nelson officiating. Interment will follow at Green Acres Cemetery; Columbus, GA. Visitation will be Friday from 1:00pm until 6:00pm at People’s Funeral Home located at 1604 Talbotton Road Columbus, GA. SSG (RET) Mitchenor was born April 30, 1928 in Lumpkin, GA the son of the late Bolie and Suddie Mitchenor. SSG (RET) Mitchenor served in the United States Army and was a United States Army Civil service retiree at Fort Benning, GA and a member of Sweet Home Baptist Church, Box Spring Georgia. SSG Mitchenor was the recipient of various commendations to include the Purple Heart, Korean Campaign Service Medal, and the Vietnam Campaign Service Medal, (3)Army Commendations Medals(6) Army Achievement awards (4)oversees Medals and the National Defense Service Medal. His memories are cherished by 1SG (RET) Tommie Lee Mitchenor, Jr, Elkton, Maryland; 3 daughters Edna A. Mitchenor Dukes, Yvonne Perry and Priscilla Hood Clark all of Columbus, GA 12 grandchildren ; 7 great grandchildren and a host of other loving relatives and dear friends.
