Ms. Brenda J. Short was born on January 12, 1949 in Cleveland, Ohio, to Mr. Robert Jones and Mrs. Dorothy Jones. She departed this life on Saturday, July 17, 2010.
Brenda leaves to cherish her memory three children: Anthony Ballew Sr. and his wife Sonya of Pasadena, CA, Carla Short and Bryan Short of Columbus, GA; five grandchildren: Anthony Ballew Jr., Jonathan Meriwether, Brandon Short, Christopher Ballew and Domonique Ballew; four sisters and two brothers: Jennifer Jones of Powder Springs, GA, Francine Powers of Cleveland, OH, Dorothea Jones of Cleveland, OH, Terry Drayton of Powder Springs, GA, William Robinson Jr. of Chandler, AZ and Michael Robinson of Los Angeles, CA; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. VICTOR EDUARDO COCON ORANTES WAS BORN IN A SMALL TOWN OF SAN BENITO , PETEN, GUATEMALA ON DEC 25 1991 HAD A LOVING MOTHER WHO LOVED HIM SO MUCH AT THAT TIME BEING HER ONLY BOY AFTER HAVING 3 GIRLS BEFORE HIM HE WAS HER MIRACLE BABY. EDUARDO WENT TO SCHOOL IN SAN BENITO PETEN UP UNTIL 8TH GRADE THEN IN 2006 CAME TO THE USA TO WORK HARD AND HELP HIS MOTHER WITH WHAT EVER SHE NEEDED HE LOVED TO BE AROUND HIS FAMILY AND FRIENDS. A service of memory will be held 2:00PM Saturday, June 6, 2010 at Fountain City Rehabilitation Center 5131 Warm Springs Road, Columbus followed by Interment at 1:00PM Monday June 7, 2010 at Ft Mitchell National Cemetery, Ft Mitchell, AL with military honors according to People’s Funeral Service of Columbus, Inc. Mr. Lawrence was born June 6, 1932 in Albany, New York. He was a United States Army Veteran , loved the church and friendly to all who knew him. he is survived by his devoted wife Mary Harvey Lawrence and many dear friends.

Carrie Bell Tolbert, 84, of 1200 Warren Williams Road 200E, Columbus, and GA died Thursday June 3, 2010 at the Columbus Hospice House. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 PM, Thursday June 10, 2010 at Rose Hill Memorial Baptist Church, 1301 22nd Street with the Pastor Reverend Alonzo Whitaker officiating. Interment will follow at Green Acres Cemetery. Nella Edgar Crooks, 108, of Fort Valley, Georgia, died Sunday, May 30, 2010 in Perry, Georgia. Funeral services will be held at Saint Luke’s Episcopal Church in Fort Valley at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, June 5, 2010.
The family requests, in lieu of flowers, donations be made to Fort Valley State University Foundation – Nella Crooks Scholarship Fund.
Born Retinella Octavia Elizabeth Edgar to Walter Edgar and Martha Barnett in Watt Town, Jamaica, she spent her early years on the island attending Westwood girls’ boarding school in St. Ann’s Bay. Later in Kingston she studied and apprenticed in Dr. Robb’s clinic and pharmacy. She migrated to the United States in 1924 where she met her husband, the late Dr. Kenneth B. M. Crooks, was married and from the union came four children. Read more
